Introduction

AuthBridge, Inc. (“AuthBridge,” “we,” “us”) is a professional background screening company that provides information products and related services to other businesses and entities, including employers, non-profit organizations, government agencies, landlords, and others.  We do not provide products or services directly to consumers.  This Privacy Policy is intended to provide consumers with information concerning our practices for handling Personal Information that is provided to or obtained by us. This policy is for general information only and is posted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This policy is not meant to provide guidance on whether Personal Information should be supplied to AuthBridge. In deciding whether to direct consumers to supply information to AuthBridge, customers of AuthBridge should consult their Background Screening Agreement. In deciding whether to supply information to AuthBridge, consumers are encouraged to consult with the company that is asking the consumer to submit to a background check.

Important Terms

“Personal Information” is any information about you.  It includes your Identifying Information, as well as information about your current and past employers, educational institutions you attended, your civil and criminal history, your credit history, your driving history, drug and alcohol testing results, citizenship status, work-eligibility status, and other information relating to you.

“Identifying Information” is a subset of Personal Information.  It consists of information that enables us to identify you, such as your name, date of birth, government-issued identification number, such as your Social Security number or driver’s license number, residential address, race, sex, and photograph of your face such as what is commonly found on a driver’s license card.

“Fair Credit Reporting Act” (FCRA”) is a federal law that governs the preparation and furnishing of consumer reports bearing on a consumer’s credit worthiness, credit standing, credit capacity, character, general reputation, personal characteristics, or mode of living which is used or expected to be used or collected in whole or in part for the purpose of serving as a factor in establishing the consumer’s eligibility for (A) credit or insurance to be used primarily for personal, family, or household purposes; (B) employment purposes; or (C) any other purpose authorized under the statute.  AuthBridge is a consumer reporting agency that furnishes consumer reports to its customers.

Reasons We Gather Personal Information

AuthBridge collects Personal Information from you in order to provide services to our customer. These services include, but are not limited to, conducting background checks for employers, providing electronic Form I-9 services, serving as an E-Verify employer agent, and administering drug and alcohol testing. Your Identifying Information is used to match you to (or distinguish you from) records we obtain from a variety of sources, including courthouses, employers, and educational institutions.  Below is chart that describes the most common types of Personal Information we gather and why we gather them.

Criminal History Records

The criminal history we obtain is information that is available to the public or which can only be obtained with your written consent. The information typically consists of the name and identifying information reflected on the case file, the arrest date, the file date, the charge, the disposition, and sentencing information.

Employment History Information

When verifying an individual’s employment, we typically obtain from the past (or current) employer the title held and dates of employment. From time to time, we may be asked to request additional information relating to performance, eligibility for re-hire, and workplace behaviors.

Educational History Information

When verifying an individual’s education, we typically obtain the dates of enrollment and the degree awarded by the educational institution.

Motor Vehicle Records

When obtaining records related to a person’s driving history, we obtain the standard motor vehicle report that is supplied by the state. This typically consists of whether the license is active, invalid, or suspended, whether there are any past moving or traffic-related violations, and crash history.

Credit Reports

When we are asked to furnish domestic (U.S.) credit reports, we obtain them from Equifax, which is one of the three major credit bureaus here in the U.S. Credit reports obtained for employment purposes are a “soft inquiry” and do not impact credit scores maintained by these credit bureaus. The credit report we obtain is a standardized report, containing such common credit history items as the identity of creditors, the amounts owed, payment history, delinquencies, charge-offs, bankruptcies, etc. It does not contain financial account numbers.

Drug Test Results

Through our third-party specimen collectors, we may collect urine, saliva, and hair samples from you. We will also receive laboratory results on the analyses of these specimens, which may include positive and negative results for controlled substances.

Employment Eligibility Information

We gather citizenship status information as well as images of documents evidencing a right to work in the U.S. and which identify you.

  • We serve as an E-Verify Employer Agent for and we provide electronic Form I-9 software-as-service to our customers. In this capacity we will receive information related to your employment eligibility.

Social Media Information

Through our third-party vendors we gather information made available to public on popular social media sites, including TikTok, X, Facebook, Instagram, and others. This information includes posts relating to topics of violence, illegal drug use, expressions of unlawful conduct, and explicit sexual content.

  • At the specific request of our customer, we will provide a background check report containing information about your social media posts.
  • Publicly available information posted by you or by one of your friends or associates to whom you have given such information.

Situations In Which We Share Personal Information

AuthBridge shares Personal Information with data vendors, public record researchers, and our customers to provide our information products and to perform our services. AuthBridge intends only to share information with third parties who have a legitimate and legal purpose to receive it.  If we are asked to search for background information in a foreign country where you previously or currently live or work, we will transmit Personal Information to researchers located in those countries so that they can complete the background check.  Please note that we may have to disclose your information as required by law or when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or to comply with a court order or other judicial process.

What We Don’t Do With Your Personal Information

We do not make decisions about you, and we do not attempt to analyze or predict your behavior, preferences, interests, health, or other personal characteristics.  We do not disclose your Personal Information to third parties for marketing purposes.  In short, we do not collect or transfer your Personal Information for any purpose other than the purpose for which it was originally intended.

Security of Personal Information

AuthBridge has worked to implement technical, administrative, and physical safeguards and security measures in an effort to protect our consumer files and the Personal Information they contain against loss, misuse, theft, and unauthorized access or disclosure. Please be aware that it is impossible to guarantee the absolute security or safety of Personal Information that is collected, but we strive to take reasonable measures to protect against the theft of unencrypted Personal Information.  AuthBridge instructs its employees and vendors to use appropriate security measures when sharing, storing, and destroying your Identifying Information. These measures typically include transmitting Identifying Information only when necessary and by using appropriate levels of protection.  When AuthBridge disposes of Personal Information, we take reasonable measures to protect against unauthorized access to or use of the information in connection with its disposal.

Retention of Personal Information

Depending upon the nature of the Personal Information and the product or service for which it was collected, AuthBridge retains the information for as long as is necessary to fulfill our legal, compliance, and commercial obligations, including record retention laws, file disclosure obligations, and customer contract requirements.  We may retain our consumer files indefinitely.

Accessing Your Personal Information

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you may request and obtain a copy of the information about you that we have in our files. To do so, you can email us at consumeradvocacy@us.authbridge.com or contact us by any of the methods listed at the bottom of this page. You will be required to provide proper identification, which may include a copy of your driver’s license or other state-issued identification. We will use reasonable measures to facilitate your request.

Please Note: We do not compile or maintain files on consumers on a nationwide basis.  We do not compile or maintain credit history information on consumers. (From time to time, we may resell credit reports furnished by credit reporting agencies.) We are also not a nationwide specialty consumer reporting agency.  We do not compile or maintain information relating to medical records or payments, residential or tenant history, check writing history, employment history, or insurance claims.  Each time AuthBridge furnishes a consumer report, that report is generated anew, gathering information from original source furnishers, such as courthouses, state bureaus of investigation, past employers, educational institutions, etc. AuthBridge’s files are therefore historical only.  Archival copies of reports are maintained for compliance and legal purposes.  If we have not furnished a consumer report about you to an employer or other third-party or provided a related service such drug and alcohol testing services, then we do not have a file on you.

Correcting Your Personal Information

Most of the Identifying Information that we collect about you comes directly from you, in which case, you are in control of its accuracy. AuthBridge seeks to report accurate information when furnishing its information products and completing its services; however, we recognize that reporting errors may occur.  As such, we offer consumers the opportunity to dispute and correct information pursuant to the Fair Credit Reporting Act or other applicable laws.  Personal Information that AuthBridge finds to be inaccurate will be revised accordingly. If you identify information on our consumer report that you believe is incomplete or inaccurate, you may report it to AuthBridge and we will conduct a reinvestigation.  

Your Personal Information Rights

Consumers have certain rights under federal and state consumer reporting laws. Stolen Personal Information

If you believe your Identifying Information has been stolen, you may contact a nationwide consumer reporting agency to place a fraud alert on your credit file. Please note that AuthBridge is not a nationwide consumer reporting agency. Personal Information of California Consumers

AuthBridge provides investigative consumer reports about residents of the State of California.  If you would like AuthBridge to provide you with additional information regarding our privacy practices or if you believe your personal information has been compromised, please contact us using any method listed at the bottom of this page.

Personal Information Disclosure

United States or Overseas – Information about consumers will be shared overseas under certain circumstances, such as when we prepare a background report on an individual who is or was living or working overseas or if the customer requesting the background check report on you is located overseas.

California Consumer Privacy Act & California Privacy Rights Act

Recognizing that consumers are already provided with accuracy and privacy protections under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, the California Consumer Credit Reporting Agencies Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act, the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) and the California Privacy Rights Act (“CPRA”) expressly exempt our consumer reports from their requirements.  As a consumer, you still have rights and protections.  Please read this Privacy Policy to learn about the information we collect, how we collect it, and how you can review your file and dispute inaccuracies.

Transfer of Personal Information Across Borders

If your Personal Information is subject to the data protection laws of another country by virtue of a cross-border data transfer, such transfer may be based on one or more of the following legal mechanisms:

  • Relevant authorities have determined that your personal information will be protected adequately once it is transferred.
  • We, our customer, or a third-party partner or vendor have signed approved or standard contractual clauses with the recipient of Personal Information that relevant authorities have deemed ensure the adequate protection of Personal Information;
  • We, our customer, or a third-party partner or vendor has binding corporate rules within their corporate structure or group that relevant authorities have deemed to ensure the adequate protection of Personal Information; or
  • You have provided your consent for us to transfer data to allow us to carry out services on behalf of our customer.

The foregoing section on cross-border data transfers is intended to provide information to individuals whose personal data is not subject to the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act but is instead subject to foreign data protection laws.

Children

Our information products and services, and this website, are not intended for use by children.  If we learn that we have collected Personal Information from a child under the age of 13 without the consent of the child’s parent or guardian, we will delete it.

When you navigate our website, AuthBridge may use automatic data collection technologies to collect certain information about your equipment, browsing actions, and patterns, including details of your visit to our website, including traffic data, location data, logs, and other communication data and the resources that you access and use on the website, as well as information about your computer and internet connection, including your IP address, operating system, and browser type.  The technologies we use for this automatic data collection may include:

Victims of Human & Sex Trafficking

Under the Debt Bondage Repair Act, victims of severe forms of trafficking in persons or sex trafficking may be eligible to have certain adverse Personal Information blocked from consumer reports issued by AuthBridge.  

Changes to This Policy

AuthBridge may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect new information products and services or as necessary to reflect new business practices.

This policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that AuthBridge does not own or control or to individuals that AuthBridge does not employ or manage.  AuthBridge assumes no liability in case of onward transfers of any individual’s information to third-party vendors.
